Typha, Sagittaria & Lophotocarpus (or, Among the Flora of a Pond)
Robert Fordyce
Typha, tall and slender,
Modest and introspect
In the shallows,
Allow the others,
Sagittaria and Lophotocarpus,
Their bright, stunning garb.
Though your features
Are plain, simple,
You see and feel
The same sky and water
As the others; though their
Arrows flash and
Threaten, you save your
Strength and calm,
Unassuming.
Then, in high winds and
Rain, the nearby
Branches shield you.
Amid the flay and scatter:
Lopho-tarius, Sagit-carpus,
You remain, Typha.
